John Berean, a Senior Project Manager with HVS San Francisco and the firm's Hawaii expert, has a mind for making sense of numbers in acute detail. His business-related accomplishments with figures include the analysis of potential investment in the Peruvian wind market. His father, an architect of luxury hotels across Asia, inspired John’s move into hospitality. He brings this breadth of experience to his work on hotel appraisals and feasibility studies, digging up details during fieldwork and site inspections that prove essential in the final analysis of your hotel’s value.
John’s hands-on hospitality experience includes work as Accounts Coordinator and Revenue Analyst for the Queen Kapiolani Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. In this role he produced revenue projections, monitored and updated hotel and golf course pricing, and conducted local market research and analysis. He also created statistical and data analysis software to manage golf revenues. John earned a Masters of Economics, with a concentration in Quantitative Finance, from the Peking University HSBC Business School in Shenzhen, China. He previously majored in International Studies, with a minor in Environmental Studies, at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont.
John has lived in cities across Asia, including Shenzhen, Bangkok, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, and Taipei. He is fluent in Mandarin and can hold a conversation in Japanese. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, he has a strong connection with the islands. John has consulted on projects throughout the islands and is the firm's primary Hawaii consultant. He is also an accomplished pianist, having performed with the Honolulu Symphony in 2006 and the Punahou Symphony Orchestra in 2008.
